Leadership OpportunitiesCounty committees are the vehicle for Farm Bureau accomplishments. This month, new committee chairs will be approved by county FB boards. "Chairmen play a key role in how effective the county committees are," said Jeff Watkins, OFBF vice president for field services. Chairmen selected this year will lead the following committees: Advisory Council and Young Farmers; Ag Ecology; Government Affairs; Information; Marketing; Membership; Promotion and Education; Safety; and Youth. Organization directors help county presidents develop their list of prospective chairmen. "We encourage face-to-face visits with the prospective chairmen," Watkins said. The roster of those who agree to serve as chairmen is submitted to the county board for approval and then submitted to OFBF no later than July 1. Committee chairs have the opportunity to attend several training meetings to help them succeed in their positions. OFBF's Leadership Conference Aug. 15 and 16 and two area cabinet meetings are the foundation of training. Organization directors stay in touch throughout the program year. When requested, even more personalized training may be scheduled with the OD, area supervisor or OFBF staff member in charge of the program area. "Chairmen enjoy a great deal of personal satisfaction when they see their committee enjoy success and make a difference," Watkins said. If you have not been asked to serve as a committee chair, and would like to, or would be interested in serving on a county committee, please contact your county FB office. | |
