First-ever Golf Outing Meets Fund-Raising Goal

The inaugural Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Invitational Golf Outing was a great success in every way – weather, camaraderie and the reaching of its goal of $20,000.

More than 140 golfers set out on beautiful June 10 at the Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin to support the OFBF Foundation. More than $20,000 was raised for the foundation, which will support special projects that focus on agricultural education, environmental and economic issues.

Currently, the foundation provides scholarships to college students through the Darwin Bryan Scholarship fund and has received grants to support the "Science Alive in the Classroom" summer teacher workshop June 24 to 28, the OFBF Agricultural Ecology AWARE program and other Farm Bureau sponsored environmental programs.

Dr. C. William Swank, former executive vice president of OFBF and long-time leader in Ohio and U.S. agriculture, was special honoree of the event.

Heath Eisele, a junior at Ohio State majoring in natural resources, is a three-time recipient of the Darwin Bryan scholarship and served as master of ceremonies at the golf outing.

Nationwide was the premier sponsor of the outing. Other sponsors included Bob Daniels Buick; Bricker and Eckler; Capitol Insights; Chorpenning, Good and Pandora Co.; Farmland Insurance Nationwide Agribusiness; FirstEnergy Solutions; Franklin County Farm Bureau; Gates McDonald; Geo. E. Fern Co.; Kingston; KPMG; Moorehead Design; Nationwide Health Plans; Nationwide State Operations; Ochsendorf Co. Promotions; Ohio Corn Growers Association; Post Printing; Relizon Company; Smith Creative Services; Syngenta Crop Protection; and The Watkins Printing Company.

"We are so grateful for the wonderful weather and the large turnout of supporters – we couldn’t have asked for anything more," said Carol Ann Smith, OFBF corporate development specialist and Foundation director. "The proceeds raised today will benefit so many people. It’s so great that our friends are able to see the Foundation as a worthy cause."
