Farm Bureau at the State Fair

There are some special events happening at the Land and Living – "Agriculture: Your Link to Life" exhibit at the state fair. OFBF has worked out a partnership with NBC 4, a Columbus TV station, and Ohio State University, which produces "On the Road with Tom McNutt." McNutt will devote a portion of his program to tour the exhibit. In addition, NBC 4 will run promotional ads for the exhibit during it's morning news show and The Today Show.

McNutt will broadcast live from the exhibit on Saturday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. He will be on hand at various times during the fair to answer gardening questions and to sign autographs, including from noon to 2 p.m. on Farm Bureau Day, Aug. 16. Fairgoers may sign up to win a Tom McNutt garden bag, sponsored by OFBF.

As a partner with NBC 4, OFBF has been invited to join NBC 4 talent to pass out seed packets that direct people to the Land and Living display. The seed packets will be distributed on Aug. 5 and 12.

OFBF Metropolitan Program Coordinator Emily Kahrs said, "Our goal through these partnerships is two-fold. We want to promote our Land and Living display and at the same time educate people about the impact agriculture has on their daily lives. Everyone is linked to agriculture in some way."

You can find more information about Tom McNutt's appearances on the NBC 4 Web site, which can be linked from the OFBF Web site, www.ofbf.org

Farm Bureau Youth continues to have a presence at the fair. Their exhibit is housed in the Youth Discovery Center (formerly the Lausche Building) and will feature the popular trivia wheel. Those with correct trivia answers will be entered into a drawing for a DVD player. Those with incorrect answers will be in a drawing for an Ohio State blanket. Youth councils and state youth committee members work the majority of the hours at the exhibit, so stop by between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. "Last year, more than 15,000 visitors stopped by our booth," said OFBF Director of Young Leader Programs Darrell Rubel.

For those square dancers, the second of two square dances will be held Friday, Aug. 9 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Rhodes Center. The dance is free.
