Nationwide Remembers Heritage

More than 75 years ago, Ohio Farm Bureau founded what is now Nationwide Insurance. In July, OFBF and Nationwide teamed up to sponsor Heritage Day, which celebrates Nationwide's heritage and gives Nationwide employees the opportunity to learn more about Farm Bureau programs and benefits. "We want to hold up the heritage of Nationwide and the value of the Farm Bureau/Nationwide relationship," said OFBF Director of Member Services Dan Rapp. "We also want to give Nationwide employees the opportunity to become members and review the membership benefits."

During the downtown Columbus lunchtime event, OFBF member benefit providers, COSI and representatives from Farm Bureau's promotion and education, ag ecology, government affairs, advisory councils, OFB Foundation, member services and member communications were available with information and giveaways. Other Heritage Day activities were held in Canton and at Nationwide's Tuttle Crossing location in northwest Columbus.

Rapp said the Heritage Awareness Leadership Team, comprised of OFBF and Nationwide employees, meets throughout the year to plan this event and other heritage-related activities. In the past, select employees were offered the chance to tour Franklin County farms, and the heritage committee routinely generates employee communication such as table tents for Nationwide's cafeterias, payroll stuffers and e-mail.

Visitors were treated to complimentary Our Ohio magazines, were offered information on member benefits and had fun with some of COSI's "Agriculture Adventures" interactive exhibits and the corn climbing wall.
