River Valley Region - Miami County Farm BureauNew Display is ‘Ear’ Catching While looking through an environmental magazine, Miami County Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education chair Cynda Shuman got an idea for a display to get people’s attention – a giant ear of corn made of half gallon milk jugs. After soliciting milk jugs from county Farm Bureau members, Cynda’s husband, Art, went to work constructing a 6-foot ear of corn to use at the Miami County FB tent at the county fair. "It’s still not where we would like it to be. I’ve used 133 jugs and would like to add another 100 by fair time next August," said Art Shuman. Art painted the jugs yellow and used a green satin cloth to make the husk. Currently it is in four sections and is assembled on site. Once it is completed the county FB would like to use the display for many events throughout the year. Cynda is creating information about corn facts and the products made from corn to accompany the display. "It’s a definite attention-getter," Art said. "It’s something unique and interesting." | |
