Buckeye Region – Lorain County Farm BureauFarm Tour Draws 275 Visitors Lorain County Farm Bureau’s Fall Farm Tour was a big success this year. The one-day drive-it-yourself tour drew approximately 275 people to the five stops. "We try to make the tour as interesting as possible and encourage people to go to all of the five stops. They’re all not necessarily traditional farms, but they are all related to agriculture," said Sherry Norton, Lorain County Farm Bureau promotion and education chair. "This year, to be eligible for a wall hanging done by one of our members, they had to visit all stops to get stamps. At the end of the tour they turned in the stamps for a drawing." The event was heavily promoted by Lorain County Farm Bureau which bought radio spots and other advertisements and just prior to the tour; Norton was a guest on the local radio station. The stops included Doud’s Veterinary Hospital, Polen’s Implements, Farmyard Flowers, Jaloda Dairy Farms and the Lorain County Soil and Water Conservation District. An FFA group set up a petting zoo at the veterinary hospital, and Lorain County FB had a display at the implement store. "With this tour, we are trying to expose the public to all aspects of agriculture. It’s not all dairy, crops and beef. A wide variety of jobs deal with farming – even if it’s raising flowers or owning an implement dealership," Norton said. | |
