Pioneer Region - Cuyahoga County Farm Bureau

Pedal Tractor Pull has Become a Fair Favorite

About five years ago, Cuyahoga County Farm Bureau was approached by the county’s antique tractor club about organizing a pedal tractor pull in the community. Farm Bureau representatives agreed it would be a good event and researched the cost of tractors and the pulling sled.

Cuyahoga County Farm Bureau talked to the Cuyahoga County Fair board and scheduled the pull for the last Saturday of the fair. That first year drew more than 300 spectators and many participants, and has been a fair mainstay ever since.

"The fair board was delighted with the turn out. It’s a great event. You should just see the kids’ faces during the pull," said Ivan Hack, chair of Cuyahoga FB pedal tractor pull committee. "You gotta be there to see it and experience the fun."

There are four age classes for children and an adult pull. Each participant receives a ribbon and a bag of sweets from B.A. Sweetie Candy, a local candy company. There are three winners in each class, and they receive a T-shirt and a trophy.

"There are kids who have participated each year and moved up in the age classes. To get a kid to participate at 10 and see him continuing to do it at 15 is a great thing," Hack said. "It’s a fun event, but at the same time we’re getting people to the fair and to learn about Farm Bureau."
