Butler County tops youth annual meetingThe Butler County Butlers and Maids Youth Council took top honors in both the Spotlight on Safety Skit and Outstanding Youth Council contests. The awards were presented during the youth annual meeting, Dec. 7 at the Embassy Suites in Dublin. A Spotlight on Safety contest is held during the area One-Day Fall Youth Conferences. The purpose of the skits is to help the teens learn more about safety, and then present the information in a fun way to their peers. The three area winners compete for the state title. At the state contest, the Summit Summiteers took second place and the Auglaize Awesome Aardvarks took third. Butler County's winning skit was a take off on "The Wizard of Oz" in which the characters followed the yellow brick road to Safety Town, and along the way learned about home and fire safety. On a national level, the Morgan Misfits, Morrow Big Dogs and the Butlers and Maids were recognized for winning awards from the National Safety Council. To earn the awards, the councils performed local safety education and safety projects to help their county Farm Bureaus and communities. In the Outstanding Youth Council contest, youth councils are judged in areas such as community and Farm Bureau supporting activities, service, member attendance and safety.
