Labor organization continues many services

Mid American Ag & Hort Services Inc. (MAAHS) , is a regional labor organization formed by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) and many other agricultural organizations in Ohio and Indiana. It has been operating for more than a year now, and has demonstrated its value to agricultural employers within its service area.

The organization has published many educational materials, held its first annual meeting and offered programs for employers during a busy first year of operation.

The organization’s goal is to improve labor management and compliance with federal and state regulations as they pertain to migrant workers. The organization also strives to improve the working and earnings environment for Mid-American agricultural employers and workers.

A new Web site was launched Nov. 1 offering more opportunities to help employers comply with the myriad of state and federal labor laws and regulations. The Web site (www.midamservices.org) was made possible by financial assistance from Indiana's Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture, USDA Block Grants on Specialty Crops and Promotion of Agriculture and Ohio State University Extension Ag and Hort Labor Education Program.

Sponsor organizations of MAAHS are OFBF, Ohio Fruit Growers Society, Ohio Vegetable and Potato Growers Association, Indiana Farm Bureau, Ohio Nursery Landscape Association, Ohio Florist Association and Ohio State University Extension Farm Labor Relations Program. Members of these organizations pay a fee
