Youth quiltIn light of the Sept. 11 attacks, Ohio Farm Bureau youth put their hands and hearts together to create a patriotic quilt that was sent to New York City. OFBF Director of Young Leader Programs Darrell Rubel said the State Youth Committee came up with the quilt idea as a vehicle for Farm Bureau youth to express what America means to them. During the youth annual meeting in December 2001, the teens wrote their patriotic messages on quilt squares. Eileen Wise, Belmont County, spent 100 hours quilting 276 squares together. Wise has been quilting since she was a girl. She and her husband, Bill, are long-time Farm Bureau members and former youth council advisers. "It was an honor to be asked to do it," she said. On the way to New York, the quilt made stops at this winter's Area Cabinet Meetings and the youth Spring Fun Event. | |
