Food Check-Out Day plans setTo commemorate Food Check-Out Day Feb. 6, Ohio Farm Bureau and county Farm Bureaus are planning several events and activities. Feb. 6 is the date that average American families have earned enough disposable income to pay for the entire year's food supply. A statewide event is being held in Dayton, and TV commercials will be aired in the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo and Dayton markets, according to OFBF Metropolitan Program Coordinator Emily Kahrs. The Dayton event will be held at Meijer and will feature OFBF President Terry McClure, OFBF Executive Vice President Jack Fisher and food consultant Connie Cahill cooking together. Cahill has been a consultant with Oscar Mayer, Perdue Farms, Kraft, Sargento, KitchenAid and M&M Mars and can been seen on the noon broadcast of WLIO-TV in Lima. Montgomery County Farm Bureau members have agreed to dress as fruits and vegetables and distribute the new Farm Bureau coloring book to shoppers. There will be a drawing for $500 of groceries. The Food Check-Out Day TV commercial will air on the following stations: WEWS, Cleveland; WCMH, Columbus, WKRC, Cincinnati; WTOL, Toledo and WHIO in Dayton. Look for the commercials to air around popular programs such as "The View," "Oprah," "Dr. Phil" and noon newscasts from Feb. 2 through Feb. 6. Radio spots also are planned to air then. In addition, approximately 70 billboards have been purchased throughout the state. To learn how your county Farm Bureau is participating in Food Check-Out Day, contact your county Farm Bureau. Menu of Hope Ohio Farm Bureau has signed on as the meal sponsor for the annual Menu of Hope Luncheon, to benefit the Children's Hunger Alliance. The luncheon will take place Feb. 13 in Columbus. Farm Bureau is also sponsoring the table centerpieces consisting of Longaberger baskets filled with Ohio Proud products and information about Food Check-Out Day. "We have a relationship with Children's Hunger Alliance already, now we are taking it a step further," Kahrs said.
