Why Farm Bureau?

Eighty-four years ago, a group of farmers gave birth to the Ohio Farm Bureau. And the organization has been working for Ohio farmers ever since. Recently, OFBF advisory councils were asked to address the topic, "Why Farm Bureau?" The idea was to contrast and compare the Farm Bureau of today with the organization that was born in 1919. Following are some of the comments advisory councils shared.

Mercer County, Granville Boosters Council:

One of the reasons Farm Bureau continues to achieve its goals is people continue working together to get what they want and know how to get there.

Holmes County, Dari Dale Council:

We discussed the changes that have evolved over the years and concluded that Farm Bureau is one of the few organizations representing farmers, specifically in the political arena.

Preble County, Odds-n-Ends Council:

We all believe that Farm Bureau is an important part of our lives and other farm families are missing out on the fellowship that we have because of our council. Although we do not meet every month we have become quite good friends because of our FB council.

Medina County, CRB’s Council:

We were surprised Farm Bureau had been formed so long ago. Most of us remembered it as "Landmark – Farm Bureau" where you went to buy supplies and feed. We’re proud to be a part of the organization and know of a lot of benefits we would not have without Farm Bureau.

Shelby County, Lamplighters Council:

The group concluded that Farm Bureau is still very relevant to farmers and definitely needs to continue to improve the life of rural people.

Mercer County, 1 A Council:

Years ago Farm Bureau evolved around the farmers, to improve their situation. Now we are a minority in a majority. Farm Bureau is serving different people for various reasons. But with a membership of 215,000 members, we should hope to create a partnership between farmers and consumers that meets the needs of both and ensure agricultural prosperity in a world marketplace.

Trumbull County, Young Spirited Council:

Farm Bureau has done more than most organizations to not only keep up but also propose new concepts in agriculture.

Auglaize County, #37 Council:

Envision Farm Bureau as not only the producer’s advocate, but also the consumer's as well. Assuring their confidence in the safety of food, verifying agriculture’s positive impact on (the) environment.
