New summer conference for junior high studentsLately, Farm Bureau has seen more seventh- and eighth-grade students who are interested in its youth programs. "Junior highers can come to most everything else related to Farm Bureau youth, except summer leadership conferences," according to OFBF Director of Young Leader Programs Darrell Rubel. To meet this growing interest, a summer conference for junior high students only, called Jr. High Quest, is planned for June 18 to 20. Rubel said the State Youth Committee originally developed the idea of a junior high youth conference, and after surveying youth advisers, organization directors and youth councils, the idea gelled. "Quest will give junior highers a jump start on leadership basics, helping them be leaders in their councils, schools and later on as Farm Bureau members," Rubel said. Interactive workshops will be meaningful to students, and will cover topics such as how to discover their unique talents and gifts, how to relate to their parents and peers and how to make new friends and sustain friendships. Here are the conference essentials: Date: June 18 to 20 Place: Otterbein College, Westerville Cost: $85 per person, which includes food and lodging Who: Students ages 12 to 14 Contact: County Farm Bureau offices Space is limited to 70 | |
