Maintain machinery lights Farm machinery manufactured in 2002 and later is equipped with new lighting patterns. It is the responsibility of the owner/operator to maintain all original manufacturer's equipment. The reminder is timely as farmers look to get back into the fields this spring. OFBF Director of State Legislative Affairs Scott Williams said keeping the lights in good working condition is as much for farmers' protection as motorists. "If a farmer were to be involved in a traffic accident, and an attorney could show that the equipment lights were not operable, that could be a potential lawsuit," he said. The Ohio Revised Code requires tractors manufactured prior to 2002 and other self-propelled equipment to display the following lighting from sunset to sunrise: • One white headlight on the front of the vehicle, visible from at least 1,000 feet • Two red lamps as wide apart as possible on the rear of the vehicle, visible from at least 1,000 feet or one red light and two red reflectors • Two amber flashing lights on extreme right and left projections of the tractor, especially in cases of dual-wheeled vehicles. | |
