Pioneer Region - Noble County Farm Bureau
Noble County Farm Bureau held two Earth Day celebrations April 26, one at Shenandoah Elementary School and one in Caldwell. The events featured displays on litter prevention, water testing and recycling. There also was an oil spill demonstration and an aluminum can drop-off with the recycling proceeds going to the local Boy and Girl Scouts. Giveaways include tree seedlings, vegetable seed packets and Farm Bureau T-shirts. "It’s a great celebration. We want to let the public know that farmers do things to try to protect our ground," said Marcia Murphy, promotion and education chair. "Farmers work very hard to make sure our environment is clean." Other participants in the event were Noble County SWCD, Duck Creek Watershed, Noble County Recycling and Litter Prevention and local Boy and Girl Scout troops. Murphy, who also is a science teacher at Shenandoah Elementary, uses many of OFBF’s Agricultural Ecology’s programs such as the Agricultural Watershed Awareness and Resource Evaluation water testing kit and the new Windows on your Waterways exercises in her classroom. She also has implemented a recycling program at the school. | |
