River Valley Region - Pickaway County Farm Bureau

Getting students interested in agriculture

More than 2,800 Pickaway County students learned about many different aspects of agriculture during the Pickaway County Ag Days at the fairgrounds organized by the Pickaway County Farm Bureau.

Students learned about everything from flowers and wild animals to boating safety and prosthetic limbs. They were able to pet and to learn about farm animals from Slate Run Farm. Students had a chance to inspect and learn about major farm machinery. COSI on Wheels also took part in the event. Three FFA groups, local vocational school students and the Westfall Jobs for Ohio Students group helped with many of the displays.

The learning displays included the local health department, South Central Power, Master Gardeners, Pickway SWCD, poultry, beef, corn growers, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Berger Hospital and Ohio Willow Wood, among others.

"(Pickaway County Farm Bureau) holds this every three years to help students realize that agriculture affects just about everything in their lives," said Connie Angles, organizer of the event. "We want them to know where their milk, bread and everything else really comes from, and we want them to know how to be safe on the farm as well."

Other sponsors of the event included Bank One, Citizens Bank of Ashville, Pickaway County Farmers Club, Midland, C&B Farm Supply, Reeb’s Farm Market, Teays Valley Young Farmers, George Hamrick, Circleville Oil, Circleville Chamber of Commerce and Kingston National Bank.
