Tour large and small dairies June 11Farm Bureau members will have a chance to explore the environmental, economic and social issues of large and small dairies during a NeighborConnections tour of two locations in Williams County June 11.
The first stop of the tour will be Herman’s Holsteins in Edgerton. Tour participants are to drive to the farm and meet the group at 9:30 a.m. The Hermans run a 170-head dairy. After the Herman tour, the group will move to Miller Park Recreation Facility for a box lunch and discussion. At 1 p.m. the group will tour the 2,500-head Bridgewater Dairy, operated by Leon Weaver. There also will be a hayride through the barns of the Bridgewater Dairy. Participants will be able to see the difference between the milking parlors, feeding areas, manure storage and animal and calf housing areas at the large and small dairies. The tour should conclude by 3 p.m.
