River Valley Region - Preble County Farm Bureau

Friendly Group #18 challenges all advisory councils

The Friendly Group #18 Advisory Council of the Preble County Farm Bureau has issued a challenge to the rest of the advisory councils across the state: Support OFBF’s 4-H center fund-raising effort.

At its May 1 meeting, the group decided to aid the effort by collecting $95 from the 16 council members and using $5 from its treasury to make an even $100 donation.

"We hope this spurs other councils to donate to the fund," said Glenna Jordan, council secretary. "Every little bit helps, and we decided it was a good place to put our money."

This money will go toward the $12 million fund-raising campaign for the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau Federation pledged a combined $3 million challenge grant, matching $1 for every $2 raised by 4-H members and volunteers. This is in addition to an initial pledge of $1 million from OFBF.

The council was created 58 years ago, and a few of the charter members are still involved. Many members of Friendly Group #18 were 4-H advisers in the past, and many of their children and grandchildren are involved with 4-H.

"We’re all retired, and if we have a little money left over, we try to give it," Jordan said. "Keeping kids involved in agriculture and 4-H is important."
