You spoke, we listenedWhen you receive your Farm Bureau membership renewal notice this fall, something will be missing. "We will no longer ask for a Social Security number on membership applications," according to OFBF Director of Technology and Development David Rule. In an effort to prevent identity theft, members had asked that OFBF no longer ask for Social Security numbers or include them in mailings to members. Identity theft is a growing concern. "We are doing our part to protect members," Rule said. Instead, members will be identified through a unique 10-digit membership number.
Rule said that to save costs, the pre-printed membership materials and applications that have a space for the Social Security number will be used until they are gone, but members will not be asked to provide their number.
"We wanted to be responsive to member needs," Rule said. | |
