To help offset rising health care costs, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation has partnered with Universal Rx (URx) to offer preferred member prices on prescription drugs. The pharmacy plan allows card members to purchase prescriptions at any of 35,000 participating pharmacies and receive the lowest available cost.

If the pharmacy price is lower than the URx nationally contracted price then the member receives the lower pharmacy price. The program covers you and your dependents. Prescription cards may not be used in combination with any other drug card, however you also can save on prescriptions not covered in your insurance plan. The card is a "cash discount card" where members pay 100 percent co-pay at the point of purchase. Members on average save 15 to 20 percent off the regular retail price. This depends on what medications the cardholder is purchasing or on the margin between the URx national contract price and the pharmacy regular retail price. Some prescriptions have been known to have savings of up to 50 to 60 percent off regular retail prices.

Using the Card
Provide the card each time you go to the pharmacy to purchase prescriptions and make sure the pharmacist submits the prescription online to URx. This assures the member of the lowest price. You may present both the Universal Rx card and your health insurance card and ask the pharmacist which would give you the best out-of-pocket cost. Ordinarily, your health plan co-pay will be less expensive than the Universal Rx price; however, with the rising cost of co-pays, it may benefit you to use the discount.
