River Valley Region - Montgomery and Warren County Farm Bureaus

Bringing agriculture to the city

Montgomery and Warren County Farm Bureaus have brought a little bit of country life to the big city.

Montgomery County Farm Bureau donated 5,000 of OFBF’s Promotion and Education Department’s We Grow in Ohio coloring books to Dayton City Schools. The coloring book contains agricultural facts and original illustrations.

Warren County Farm Bureau donated 1,000 coloring books and copies of the educational video Ten Things Kids Want to Know About Agriculture to the Lebanon City School District.

Both county Farm Bureaus also offered that their county boards or the promotion and education committee could come to the schools for a presentation about agriculture. No appointments have been scheduled for this school year, but Amy Mole, organization director for Hamilton, Montgomery and Warren counties, hopes to make this an annual event and to visit the schools next year.

"The coloring books and videos are a simple way to teach children about Ohio agriculture without them realizing they’re learning about agriculture. It’s a fun thing for them to do," Mole said. "We hope it opens the children’s eyes to what agriculture provides to them."

The coloring books may be ordered through county Farm Bureau offices for 45 cents each.
