Excellence in Crop Advising award winner announcedDavid Scheiderer of Milford Center in Union County is the recipient of the 2003 OFBF Excellence in Crop Advising Award.
The Excellence in Crop Advising award program, sponsored by American Farm Bureau Federation in association with the American Society of Agronomy, recognizes certified crop advisers who have performed superior service for farmers in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop production. In addition, the award increases awareness of the fact that farmers and their service people strive to do their best in making cropping decisions that are both economically and environmentally sound. Scheiderer started his own consulting business in 1990 and serves clients in eight west central Ohio counties who, combined, account for 80,000 acres of farmland and produce corn, soybeans, wheat, sweet corn, forage, pork and poultry. His staff of six, including five certified crop advisers, enables him to offer his clients a diverse set of expertise including manure management, advice on specialty crops and an extensive test plot program for variety recommendations and the integration of the latest technologies.
According to Constance Jackson, OFBF vice president of agricultural ecology, Scheiderer provides excellent service to his clients. He offers them innovative ideas, incorporates the latest technology and achieves production and economic results that are environmentally sound.
As Ohio's winner, he won $500 from Pioneer, a DuPont company, an expense-paid trip to the AFBF Watershed Heroes Conference in Minnesota and will receive a plaque at Farm Science Review, Sept. 16 to 18.
He is entered in the national certified crop adviser competition; the winner will receive an expense-paid trip and be recognized at the AFBF annual meeting in January 2004. | |
