Policy development meetings set

OFBF’s Policy Development (PD) Committee meetings are set for Sept. 8 and 9 and Nov. 6 and 7 in Columbus.

The PD Committee works to develop positions on state and national issues and plans for programs this fiscal year based on input from County Farm Bureaus which held their annual meetings this summer and approved county policies. Delegates from many county Farm Bureaus are members of the PD Committee. Several state and federal issue/policy backgrounders were provided to county Farm Bureaus to aid them in understanding key issues.

Counties are sending their policy recommendations to OFBF using a new database format this year, which should enhance the work of the committee as it considers the interests of the membership. The September meeting will include outside resource people who will share their expertise on a variety of issues such as farm economy, air quality and ag lending and finance

Other important sources for input into OFBF policies are advisory councils and state commodity committees.

"This is truly grassroots in action. It's from this work that we begin to identify our priorities for the coming year," said Keith Stimpert, OFBF vice president of government affairs.

The committee’s final report will be given to delegates for action at the OFBF annual meeting Dec. 3 through 5 in Columbus. Members of the committee are Homer Althouse, Russell Crabtree, Dave Dotterer, Don Hawk, Don Ralph, Lou Schindler, Tracee Swank, Andra Troyer, Neall Weber, Diana Welch, Bob Peterson, Gale Betterly, Helen Caplinger, Steve Hess, Ed Lamalie, Randy Leis, Bill Lowe, Terry McClure, John Miller, Keith Truckor, Lee Oswalt, Sparky Weilnau, Tim Williams, Andrew Wilson and Steve Zumberge.
