Promotion and Education program reaches consumers

Vintage Ohio

On Aug. 1 and 2, Ohio Farm Bureau and the Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake County Farm Bureaus participated in what USA Today calls one of the top 20 events in the nation. Vintage Ohio, held at Lake Farmpark in Kirtland, draws approximately 32,000 people each year. Festival-goers had the chance to meet winemakers from across the state while sampling more than 100 varieties of wine. "Vintage Ohio is a great opportunity for local farmers to interact with consumers in a fun atmosphere," said Anita Cook, Cuyahoga County Farm Bureau organization director. Farm Bureau had a booth and offered festival-goers a chance to spin an agriculture trivia wheel in hopes of winning prizes such as T-shirts, pens and yardsticks.

North Market Food and Wine Festival

OFBF helped celebrate Ohio’s bounty at the 2nd annual North Market Food and Wine Festival held July 12 and 13 in Columbus. The festival was free and featured wines from 12 Ohio wineries, an expanded farmers’ market, musical entertainment, food and cooking demonstrations and a variety of children’s activities. OFBF supplied the popular corn climbing wall. OFBF staff and interns had the opportunity to talk with consumers about agriculture while harnessing and hooking kids to the wall. "Because this festival is a family event, we have the opportunity to reach both children and adults," said Emily Kahrs, OFBF metropolitan program coordinator. "The corn wall standing in downtown Columbus is a great draw. Once we get folks there, we can begin talking with them about the importance of farmers and Ohio agriculture," Kahrs said. The North Market is Columbus’ only remaining public market and has been in operation since 1876.
