Ohio alliance meeting to focus on food industryThe Ohio Alliance for the Environment will focus on the "Food Industry’s Ecological Paradigm in Ohio" during its 26th annual conference Oct. 14 and 15 in Columbus. "This may be the first conference to explore the relationship and impact of the food industry and the environment," according to Mike Parkes, Von Rol executive and alliance president. "We are very excited about the agenda. The speakers are regarded as the experts in their fields." The conference, which will be held at the Holiday Inn East at I-70 and Hamilton Road, kicks off with a reception Oct. 14 to welcome attendees and present Environmental Education Awards. Exhibits by the farm industry, environmental community, government and universities will be open both conference days. Oct. 15 focuses on a full day of educational sessions, which "address issues pertinent to our farm members such as the newest rules governing medium and large livestock farms," according to Larry Gearhardt, OFBF director of local activities and an alliance board member. The Ohio Alliance for the Environment is a nonprofit organization with a membership of citizens, environmental groups, agriculture, industry and government. The alliance is recognized for offering balanced information on issues of major significance in Ohio with opportunities to discuss diverse points of view.
