Pioneer Region - Wayne County Farm Bureau
Wayne County Farm Bureau was very visible in the county’s bicentennial parade in August, and its float won "Best in Parade" for the production agriculture division, the largest division in the parade. Wayne County Farm Bureau received a call from the Wayne Economic Development Council, which partners with Wayne County Farm Bureau, requesting that the organization have a float in the parade. The county board thought it would be a good idea and would help make Farm Bureau visible in the community. The theme of the float was "Agriculture, Wayne County’s Past and Future." The float was decorated with produce, hay, flowers, corn stalks and milk cans, and replacing the traditional treat of candy, Farm Bureau gave the children who lined the streets apples and peaches. The float committee was chaired by Becky Workinger and she was assisted by her husband, Tim, Greg and Diane Sautter, and Tom Machamer, who designed the floral tent with the word "Ohio" spelled out in mums. "There were 346 units in the lineup, and the Farm Bureau float will be one to remember," said John Fitzpatrick, organization director for Ashland, Medina and Wayne counties. "It was a great project, and everyone worked really hard to make it a success." CAPTION: The person in the picture is Diane Sautter. The tractor was driven by Andy Workinger. The elderly couple riding the float is Forest and Lillie Weiser? | |
