Scheiderer named national Certified Crop Adviser winner

David Scheiderer, Union County, Ohio’s nominee for the national Excellence in Crop Advising Award, was recognized at Farm Science Review as the national winner. American Farm Bureau in association with the American Society of Agronomy sponsored the national award that recognizes crop advisers for their performance of superior service to farmer clients in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop production. He will be honored at the AFBF annual meeting Jan. 10 to 14 in Honolulu.

He started his own consulting business, Integrated Ag Services, in 1990 and serves clients in eight west central Ohio counties who combined account for 80,000 acres of farmland and produce corn, soybeans, wheat, sweet corn, forage, pork and poultry. His staff of six, including five crop advisers, enables him to offer his clients a diverse set of expertise including manure management, advice on specialty crops and an extensive test plot program for variety recommendations and the integration of the latest technologies.

Ohio’s top conservation farm families for 2003 were honored for their long-standing dedication to natural resource conservation. The Conservation Farm Family awards are sponsored by Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Farmer magazine and Ohio Farm Bureau. This year’s winners are Walter and Donna Lange, Fulton County, who own a 56-acre Certified Tree Farm; Chase Heyman and family, Huron County, who operate a 2,778 acre diversified farm; Don Guindon, who manages the Olney Taber Farm for the Olney Friends Quaker High School in Belmont County; Don and Gloria Riley, Montgomery County, who farm 500 acres including soybeans, wheat, corn and a 98-acre woodlot; and Russell and Barb Casper, Highland County, who operate a 250-acre livestock farm. All five families are Farm Bureau members. Since 1984, the awards program has recognized more than 100 Ohio farm families for their exemplary efforts of conserving soil, water, woodland and wildlife and other natural resources on the land they farm. In addition to receiving $400 each from Ohio Farm Bureau, the families are featured in the September issue of Ohio Farmer.
