Equine conference set for Dec. 13
This year’s OFBF Equine Education Conference will feature many opportunities to learn about legal aspects of horse ownership. The conference is scheduled Dec. 13 at the Columbus Marriott Northwest, 5605 Blazer Parkway near the I-270 Tuttle Crossing exit. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the program starting at 9:15 a.m. and adjourning at 4 p.m. The break-out sessions include: - Attractive Nuisance, Line Fence Laws and Equine Liability Law with Peggy Kirk Hall, agricultural law education and senior research specialist on rural-urban policy issues at Ohio State University (OSU)
- Agricultural Zoning, and information Current Agricultural Use Value and Agricultural Districts with Larry Gearhardt, director of local affairs for OFBF
- Animal Health Issues with William A. Saville, assistant professor in veterinary preventive medicine at the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine
- Environmental Rules and Regulations with David White, OFBF director of commodity relations
- Manure Management for Equine Stables and Horse Farms with Randy James, associate professor in horticulture and crop sciences at OSU
- Sales Tax and Other Tax-related Issues with David Miller, assistant professor in agricultural economics for OSU Extension
- Equine EXCEL with Robert C. Kline, associate professor in the department of animal sciences at OSU
- Pasture and Hay Management for Horse Farms with Robert Hendershot, state grazing specialist for USDA/NRCS.
Cost per person for those registering before Dec. 1 is $25 for Farm Bureau members and $40 for non-members. After Dec. 1 that cost increases to $35 for members and $50 for non-members.
