Retired general to address members at AFBF annual meeting

Farm Bureau members will hear a speaker who until recently led a coalition of more than 60 nations to victory in the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan, when they travel to Hawaii for the American Farm Bureau Federation's 85th annual convention, Jan. 10-14, 2004.

The AFBF annual convention will feature a variety of sessions, special events and entertainment. Gen. Tommy Franks (USA-Ret.) will be the keynote speaker at the Monday afternoon, Jan. 12, general session.

As Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command, Franks most recently guided 250,000 troops worldwide in precise execution of military operations in Iraq. He served during some of the most difficult times in U.S. history, including the attack on the USS Cole, 9/11, Afghanistan and the War on Iraq. Franks began serving his country in 1967 during the Vietnam War and worked his way up the ranks over the course of more than 30 years.

Among other meeting highlights:

  • Young Farmer Discussion Meet and the final rounds of the Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Awards.
  • Address by AFBF President Bob Stallman
