Profiles Staff Chip Nelson joined Ohio Farm Bureau in 1995 as organization director for Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties. In 2000, he was named director of advisory council programs. Advisory councils are the foundation of OFBF’s grassroots approach to policy making and problem solving. They are groups of friends and family who meet regularly to develop camaraderie and community while discussing farm and family topics. Nelson provides leadership to the council system and creates a Speakout Guide each month that contains important information and discussion topics. More than 8,000 members participate in more than 700 advisory councils throughout Ohio. "I enjoy being a part of a program where I can watch it from beginning to end and see that the results benefit the members," Nelson said. Before joining OFBF, Nelson was farm director for WKFI Radio, and prior to that, he taught agriculture education and was an FFA adviser at Oak Hill High School and Blanchester High School. He is a graduate of Wilmington College. He and his wife, Charla, have two children, Joshua, 16, and Meagan, 13, and reside in Circleville. They attend Nicholas Drive Church of God where Nelson sings in the choir and on the Praise Team. He also is a parent volunteer with the Circleville High School Band. | |
