Author accepts literature award

Kate Klimo knows beans about agriculture.

No … Really, she does. She captured the life cycle of plants in her OFBF award winning book Oh Say Can You Seed?

Klimo attended OFBF’s annual meeting in early December to accept the organization’s Children’s Literature Award. As part of her visit to central Ohio, the New Yorker stopped in at the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library to read her book to kindergartners from Pilgrim Elementary School in the Columbus Public School system. She also explained how a book gets from the author’s pen to the reader’s hands.

Klimo, who writes under the pen name of Bonnie Worth, is publisher of Random House Children’s Books, which publishes The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library. The new Cat in the Hat books are designed to "teach kids things they need to know," Klimo said after accepting her award at the Kick-Off Lunch Dec. 4. "I think we’re doing that with this series."
