Buckeye Farm News stopped a few OFBF members during the Trustees Reception at the OFBF annual meeting to see what the hot button issues are in different parts of the state. "It’s definitely labor. Trying to find a constant labor source for growing, harvesting and packing our product." -- Paul Fuhrmann, Scioto County "Finding other sources of revenue. We switched from a dairy operation to raising replacement heifers. The wet weather resulted in a poor hay crop, and we’re looking for ways to sell our maple syrup." -- Eddie Lou Meimer, Morrow County "Conservation. Finding time to implement all the new conservation programs such as filter strips and grass waterways. We want to improve our farm’s conservation methods, but finding time to do it is tough." -- Bob Mobley, Clinton County "Urban encroachment. We need to make good friends with our neighbors so they understand our farming operation, methods and needs. We like to have the pie on their front porch before the cows are in their yard." -- Robert Morrison, Jefferson County | |
