Connecting neighborsThe OFBF Neighbor Connections program hosted two tours – one that took at look at the similarities and differences between small and large dairies, and the other looked at the importance of land use planning. A tour of two dairies in Williams County explored the environmental, economic and social issues surrounding dairy operations in Ohio. The dairy operators gave tour participants information on management practices, environmental regulations, water quality and supply, manure storage and digestion systems, diversity of operations in Ohio, competitive milk production and pricing, tax issues, property values, public attitudes and good neighbor relations. NeighborConnections 2003: Community Partnering for Prosperous Agriculture/Common Sense Public Policy was held on consecutive Fridays in March with a Cincinnati tour focusing on local partnering, a Cleveland event featuring private initiatives and a Columbus-area tour focusing on regional planning. The tour attempted to show participants how proponents of open space and farmland preservation communicate the seriousness of maintaining Ohio’s agricultural land, and some common sense approaches to accomplishing farmland preservation goals. | |
