Summer classes for teachersWith the end of school just around the corner for most students, many teachers start classes as students themselves in early summer. Educators must take college accredited classes in order to meet requirements for professional licensure. Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is sponsoring four summer classes that can help meet the needs of elementary teachers and share up-to-date information about the agricultural industry. Farm Bureau would like your help in publicizing details about these classes with teachers. Participants typically say these classes are some of the best they have ever taken and offer a wealth of resources for classroom use. There will be four locations around the state where week-long, graduate level classes will be held: June 14-17, Canfield, "What's Growing in Ohio?" Two credits from Ashland University. Cost: $326 June 14-18, Newark, "Science Alive in the Classroom" Three credits from Ohio State University. Cost: $704 June 21-25, Bellefontaine, "Science in the Real World" Three credits from Ohio State University. Cost: $704 June 28-July 1, Sharonville, "Land-to-Lifestyle – Making the Connections" Three credits from University of Cincinnati. Cost: $400 "These university-accredited classes are an important way to reach today’s educators and share the agriculture-related resources that can be used in the classroom," said Judy Roush, OFBF education specialist. The OFBF Web site, www.ofbf.org, has details about each class. Go to Learning Resources then click on the Ohio Agriculture In The Classroom button to find the link at the top of the page. The Promotion & Education staff also has fliers for each class. Roush said the variation in prices is based on the accrediting university’s current tuition rates. Several county Farm Bureaus also are helping by offering scholarships to participants. To register, contact the participating university or Ohio Farm Bureau at klotus@ofbf.org or 614-246-8245. | |
