Meteorologist Ben Gelber was one of the guest speakers at the 2004 Young Farmer Leadership Conference in Dublin. Gelber forecasts Central Ohio weather for WCMH NewsChannel 4. Gelber said long-range forecasting is still an educated guess, and that there are a lot of variables, but he based his prediction of a late spring on weather patterns he is observing in Canada, such as a widespread snow pack and a late season reserve of cold air. He thinks there probably will be enough cold snaps accompanied by rainy bouts that planting may be delayed. Gelber said a good Web site to visit for weather information is the National Weather Service, which can be linked from the Ohio Farm Bureau Web site, www.ofbf.org, featured links.
