Agriculture has positive impact on environmentApril 22 is Earth Day. To celebrate, county Farm Bureaus are taking steps to show how Ohio producers have voluntarily played an active role in adopting solutions that have a positive effect on Ohio’s soil, air and water resources. Also, Ohio Farm Bureau is sponsoring Every Day is Earth Day to a Farmer billboards in 47 locations across the state, and has purchased an advertisement in Ohio magazine. Agricultural ecology, promotion and education and information coordinators are collaborating to spread the stewardship and conservation message. Some counties will be writing letters to the editor; sharing news releases about the conservation efforts in their local area; pitching story ideas to local newspapers about farmers who have done an exceptional job conserving natural resources; recording public service announcements on local radio; or purchasing Farm Bureau-produced brochures, posters and placemats that highlight interesting agricultural facts to use at local events. "Earth Day provides Ohio agriculture the opportunity to highlight the positive impact agriculture has on the environment," said Constance Jackson, OFBF vice president for agricultural ecology. It is not too late to carry out a plan to promote farmers’ contributions to Earth Day. Contact your county Farm Bureau office if you would like to participate. | |
