Certified crop advising award entries due

Certified crop advisers play an important role for many farmers throughout Ohio, and now’s the time to recognize them for their work.

Ohio Farm Bureau and the American Society of Agronomists’ Ohio CCA Program are sponsoring a statewide Excellence in Crop Advising Award. The winner, which will be announced in September at the Farm Science Review in London, will receive a plaque and $500.

The purpose of the program is to show that farmers and their service providers "strive to do their best in making cropping decisions that are both economically and environmentally sound," according to OFBF’s agricultural ecology department. Details about the award were sent to county Farm Bureau offices in late May.

To be eligible, CCAs must be nominated by a current Farm Bureau member or a county Farm Bureau that has first-hand experience or knowledge of the quality of work that the CCA has performed. Joint nominations by multiple individuals are permitted as long as at least one nominator is a Farm Bureau member.

Nominations are due to OFBF by July 15; a selection committee will be comprised of OFBF and Ohio CCA staff; the state winner and nominator will be notified in August.

For more information, contact your county Farm Bureau office or contact OFBF at 614-246-8262.
