Land and Living:..Your Link to Life

Be sure to stop by the Nationwide Ag & Hort Building at this year’s Ohio State Fair, Aug. 4 to 15. The exhibits are designed to communicate a positive Ohio agriculture message to the consumer. OFBF employees, interns and Farm Bureau youth members will be on-hand to staff exhibits and answer visitors’ questions. Several of the exhibits are undergoing updates, and several new exhibits are being created.

New concepts in development include:

  • Environmental Stewardship Award Winners – This exhibit will recognize past stewardship award winners and show consumers how farmers are making environmentally sound choices.
  • ‘FightBAC!’ – An exhibit for the elementary age audience would offer computer games that focus on food safety and hygiene, with printable certificates of completion.
  • Healthy Living Pavilion and Tour – This exhibit will focus on the benefits meat, egg and dairy products have in a healthy lifestyle. Tours focusing on animal care will leave the Nationwide Ag & Hort building, take participants through the livestock barns and conclude at the Food Pavilion.
  • ‘Picture Yourself at the Fair’ – Fair visitors can have their picture taken in front of a background of an agricultural scene. They can take their photo home that day.

Enhanced exhibits:

  • Lily’s Garden – A giant pot filled with potting soil allows 5- to 12-year-olds to plant a flower and take it home. "Lily’s Garden," the OFBF Children’s Literature Award winning book will be available for purchase.
  • Transportation – The exhibit will be moved to eye level and will include more modes of agricultural transportation such as trucking and barges.
  • Stream – Conservation practices farmers employ will be highlighted in this working stream. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be adding animal forms to enhance the realism of the exhibit.

OFBF is working with Columbus area media to develop commercials and news coverage of the Land and Living exhibit.
