Profiles Volunteer Sharon Finney, her husband, Tim, and their two children started farming 13 years ago. They operate a 96-acre farm and raise registered spot hogs and beef cattle. They have been Farm Bureau members for 27 years. In that time, Sharon has been secretary and treasurer of the county Farm Bureau board and is in her second term as county president. She also has been chairman of the promotion and education, marketing and safety committees, a youth adviser, and she and her husband have been membership chairmen. They are members of the Farmers and Friends advisory council. This year, the Finneys will host the eighth annual farm tour for 300 county fourth graders; the county promotion and education committee and county Soil and Water Conservation District organize the event. Finney also is a 4-H adviser, minority adviser on the county Farm Service Agency board and associate adviser for the county SWCD board. "Farm Bureau gives farmers a voice," she said. "We’re a small minority, but through Farm Bureau we are a pretty powerful lobbying agency." | |
