Safety training available Nov. 12

The OFBF Safety Make-Up Meeting for members of the OFBF Group Rating Program will be held Nov. 12 at the Marriott Northwest in Dublin. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The meeting, including lunch, is free, but you must register in advance. Call Kathryn Benecke at Ohio Farm Bureau at 614-246-8274 to register. The deadline is Nov. 5.

To qualify as a member of the OFBF Group Rating Program for Workers Compensation through GatesMcDonald, enrolled members should attend one safety training session per year.

Following are some of the speakers and topics that will be presented at the meeting:

  • Farm Work Safety: A Partnership Approach – Retired Ohio State faculty member Bernie Erven will offer practical, take-home ideas on how employers and workers can partner to promote safety on the farm. Highlights include creating a safety-valued workplace, training workers, encouraging employee action on removing workplace hazards and reinforcing safety on your operation.
  • Employer Legal Issues Update and Resource Review – Join John Wargowsky, executive director, Mid American Ag and Hort Services, as he offers tips and resources to help employers navigate potential sticky areas and develop firm actions plans for successfully managing employees.
  • Group Rating 101 & PDPs: How You Get It, How You Keep It – A company’s group rating status can literally save thousands of dollars. Join Kathy Redmond from Gates McDonald as she explains the basics of the Group Rating program and how to make the most of a Workers Compensation program.
