Health Fair expanded for OFBF annual meeting

"Based on the tremendous success of last year’s health fair, we have decided to expand this year’s fair to be even more beneficial to members," said Kurt Ely, OFBF vice president of information, education and community service, and coordinator of the OFBF annual meeting.

On Dec. 1, members and guests are invited to participate in a comprehensive Health Fair, sponsored by Nationwide Health Plans (NHP). From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. members can meet the following vendors and take part in their services. If there is a fee associated, it is indicated:

  • NHP Medical Management: Blood Pressure Screening, Ask a Nurse, Ask a Doctor, Ask a Pharmacist
  • Ohio State University Center for Integrated Medicine: Alternative health representatives available to answer questions and demonstrate relaxation techniques.
  • Columbus Polarity: Massage therapy
  • Medco Health: Information available regarding generic and over-the-counter drugs
  • Central Ohio Diabetes: Blood sugar testing, information on diabetes
  • Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals: Spirometry testing – lung volume testing
  • Elizabeth Blackwell Center: Focusing on women’s health issues
  • American Cancer Society: Cancer questions answered, also a drawing for two cookbooks
  • Health Screen of Ohio: Bone density scans ($25), flu shots ($12) for those eligible based on the following CDC criteria:

Adults age 65 and older
All children aged 6-23 months
Persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions
All women who will be pregnant during the influenza season
Children aged 6 months – 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy
Health-care workers involved in direct patient care
Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children aged younger than 6 months

In addition there will be free information and giveaways available as well as opportunities to consult health-care professionals. Plan to take advantage of this unique opportunity and arrive early, Ely said.
