A: "The price of grain right now. I’m wondering about the farm bill right now – how it will play out. The government is asking for cuts. How will it affect us? Also tort reform. It affects agriculture and is very important. Getting (a tort reform bill) passed is a large concern." David Peart, Madison County A: "Development, urban sprawl. We are under a lot of pressure from people who would like to develop the land. A lot of people think we should be selling our land. Developers and farmers are both looking at the land. So many people have money that they are willing to buy the land." A: "Long-term viability. I have a moderate to small hog farm. I’m trying to figure out how to fit in. I don’t have family members to help. It’s a challenge to know what to do." A: "Our operation is very labor intensive, so I’d say qualified, capable labor. It’s getting more and more difficult to get laborers that are capable. Plus there’s the debate about minimum wage." A: "Suburban neighbors taking farmland. We’re getting more neighbors. It limits our expansion capabilities. It limits us as a livestock operation." | |
