Something for everyone
by Joe Cornely Farm Bureau is known as a "general" farm organization, meaning it represents a broad spectrum of agricultural interests. But for you as an individual member, Farm Bureau also offers some very specific opportunities to get involved. Interested in legislation that affects your farm? How about working with the media? Is youth leadership development important to you, or what about environmental or social issues? Perhaps you’re concerned with farm and home safety or communicating agriculture’s message to the public. There are 10 different program areas through which OFBF volunteers can focus attention on the issues that matter most in their lives. The programs are Advisory Councils and Young Farmers, Agricultural Ecology, Government Affairs, Information Coordinators, Membership, Nationwide Sponsorship, Policy Development, Promotion and Education, Safety and Youth. As a participant in any of these committees you are joined by folks from throughout Ohio who share your interests, and you’re supported by professional staff and equipped with the tools necessary for meeting your goals. In today’s busy world, you may be concerned that you just don’t have the time to devote to a committee assignment. Many Farm Bureau volunteers face that challenge. That’s why many of the opportunities to participate are designed to limit the amount of time you need to commit. You can work on a short-term project or help out during a single-day event. Maybe you’ll be asked to spend a couple of hours at a meeting or on the telephone. Whatever time you have to share, there’s a Farm Bureau job that will make your time investment one that’s worthwhile. The work is important, and the workload is manageable. So consider joining with thousands of other farmers who have gotten involved in Farm Bureau. You’ll make friends, and you’ll make a difference! | |
