Curbing lawsuit abuse

Legislation to provide sweeping changes in Ohio’s civil litigation laws received extensive support from Ohio Farm Bureau. One of the greatest financial risks for farms, families and small business is the growing cost of lawsuit abuse.

OFBF sought comprehensive tort reform via H.B. 350, which addressed obesity-related lawsuits, liability protections for u-pick operators and extension of immunity to land adjacent to recreational operations. Additional reform included limitations on noneconomic damage awards, caps on punitive damages, inclusion of government safety standards as a condition of immunity and creating a statute of repose on real property related claims.
