Line fence laws get Farm Bureau’s attention

Lots of things have changed in rural Ohio over the past 100 years, but the state’s Line Fence Law hasn’t. Because new dynamics in rural areas and divergent court interpretations of the law have created uncertainties, Farm Bureau members asked the organization to study and make recommendations on topics such as fence construction, maintenance, removal, financial obligation and township oversight responsibilities.

At the 2003 OFBF annual meeting, delegates approved new policy on line fence laws. But because unresolved issues remained, a special task force was appointed to further study the law and make recommendations to OFBF’s board of trustees. The trustees and policy development committee addressed the recommendations. Details on subsequent action by the organization were pending at press time.
