Farm Bureau fills national affairs positionAdam Sharp has been named director of national affairs for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. This new position at Farm Bureau was created in response to members’ calls for the organization to engage more fully in national legislative and regulatory issues that impact Ohio farmers directly. Among Sharp’s responsibilities will be coordinating Ohio activities with the Washington government affairs staff of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). He also will interact directly with Ohio’s congressional delegation and their staffs. Sharp will be responsible for strengthening the relationship between Farm Bureau volunteers and their members of Congress. Sharp, an Ohio native, returns to his home state after a nine-year career in Washington, D.C. He most recently was acting counselor on agricultural policy to the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he was the key contact on agricultural policy issues. He also served as associate assistant administrator in EPA’s office of prevention, pesticides and toxic substances. He previously was director of governmental relations and regulatory affairs for AFBF. He has remained active in the family crop and livestock farm in Amanda. Sharp is a graduate of Ohio State University where he majored in agricultural communications with a minor in international economic and social development. "Adam knows Washington, he knows farmers and he knows Farm Bureau," according to Keith Stimpert, OFBF’s vice president, government affairs. "Our members have said repeatedly that we need to ramp up our grassroots efforts with our elected federal officials, and Adam is a great fit to help us accomplish that goal." Sharp will assume his duties in late December. | |
