Seminars to help timber producers stay a cut aboveOhio landowners who have woodlands they want to harvest or who are interested in developing forestland into timber producing acreage will want to attend one of two Timber Marketing and Landowner Education Clinics sponsored by OFBF and the Ohio Forestry Association (OFA). The clinics will be held March 12 at the Longaberger Company in Newark and March 19 at Apple Farm Restaurant on Mapleside Farms in Brunswick. Each clinic will start with registration at 9 a.m. with programs running from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Clinics will cover topics including marketing opportunities and contracts, developing a plan that incorporates best management practices (BMPs), protecting the environment during timber harvests and the financial benefits and considerations of timber production. Speakers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Ohio State University Extension, Society of Consulting Foresters, OFBF and OFA will lead discussions and presentations. According to the Division of Forestry, more than 30 percent of Ohio is forested, totaling 7.9 million acres. Ohio’s wood products industry adds $7 billion of value to the state’s economy and employs 70,000 Ohioans. Direct payroll for the state’s forest industry exceeds $1 billion per year. Advance registration for the clinics is required. The cost is $25 for OFBF and OFA members and $40 for nonmembers. The price includes all materials as well as lunch and refreshments. A registration form and driving directions can be obtained at www.ofbf.org under Upcoming Events or by calling 614-246-8262. | |
