Buckeye Region - Shelby County Farm Bureau
For more than 10 years, a group of Shelby County Farm Bureau volunteers have participated in a community blood drive, not as blood donors, but as food donors. An annual blood drive is held the first Tuesday in January, according to Sylvia Lemkuhl, Shelby County Farm Bureau safety chairman. Lemkuhl said a group of volunteers has worked in the canteen each year for 10 years or more, serving food to donors and meals to platelet donors. The volunteers also bake homemade cookies to serve at the canteen. Lemkuhl said this year, nearly 200 people donated blood. In addition to their service, the group promotes Farm Bureau through the use of Farm Bureau napkins and place mats, and they display table tents with the Farm Bureau vision statement, "Forging a Partnership between Farmers and Consumers." | |
