Pioneer Region - Mahoning County Farm Bureau

Having fun goal of AgMazing Chase

Having fun while crossing the finish line is the goal of Mahoning County Farm Bureau young farmer committee’s AgMazing Chase. The Feb. 19 event is modeled after the hit television show "Amazing Race," which has contestants racing against each other around the world.

During the AgMazing Chase, teams will compete for prizes by finding clues and completing tasks on their way to the finish line, said Jen Weaver, one of the event’s organizers. Door prizes include Farm Bureau pullover jackets, toy tractors, gas cards, Longaberger baskets, Pampered Chef items and gift certificates.

The event is for singles and couples age 18 to 35-ish who have an interest in agriculture. Participants can be from anywhere in Ohio and do not have to be farmers or Farm Bureau members. The race will take place, regardless of weather, at Mahoning County Mill Creek MetroParks Farm on state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds. The farm is accessible from state Routes 11 and 224.

The cost is $10 per person and includes dinner. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. with the game beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Weaver said those interested should call Mahoning County Farm Bureau at 330-533-5553 or e-mail mahfb@cboss.com. Pre-registration is preferred but Weaver said people can register at the event. She noted that people can also just come for the dinner.

"This is the first time we’ve done this and we’re very excited. We’ve been trying to think of a fun social idea for farmers on a regional level," Weaver said. "We thought that by hosting something like this, another county would do something similar later."
