Fact sheet provides crop insurance infoA recently published OFBF fact sheet provides basic information on insurance products, important deadlines and producer obligations and expectations. "We wanted to give a basic overview to bring everyone up to date," said Chris Henney, OFBF director of agricultural ecology. The fact sheet is part of a series of Agricultural Ecology Information, Outreach and Understanding (AEIOU) papers that aim to explain concerns and clarify OFBF positions on issues among members, local decision makers and the public. Henney said that many more people have crop insurance today than just a few years ago and that it can be an effective tool for producers to manage risk. Last year, over 51,000 crop insurance policies were sold in Ohio, according to the USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA). Producers are encouraged to contact a licensed crop insurance agent for specific coverage information. An agent locator is available on the RMA Web site at www.rma.usda.gov under What’s hot. Farm bureau members can contact their organization director for a list of Nationwide agents who are licensed to sell the American Farm Bureau Crop Insurance products. The crop insurance fact sheet can be obtained at county Farm Bureau offices or online at www.ofbf.org under Ecology of Agriculture. | |
